Alberta
Kananaskis Country
Forty-five minutes from Calgary, and often overlooked
Why it belongs on the route
Kananaskis isn't a national park, but it's Alberta's own mountain playground, and it's close enough to Calgary that we use it to open or close shorter trips without burning a travel day getting there.
Highlights
- Kananaskis Country Golf Course viewpoints and Barrier Lake
- Mount Kidd and the Kananaskis Valley
- Highwood Pass, the highest paved road in Canada (seasonal)
- Quiet trailheads with far fewer visitors than Banff
